Scholarships for your child's school

A new federal program funds K–12 scholarships through donations. Check whether your child could qualify, see how it works, then find the scholarships students at your child's school can use.

New to K–12 scholarships? Start here

SGOs are nonprofits that give K–12 scholarships, paid for by donations. You apply to the SGO. Searching here is free.

Your child may qualify if:

  • You live in a state that's taking part30 states are in. See the list
  • Your child is in kindergarten through 12th grade
  • Your family earns less than 3 times the typical income where you live

Check in three questions

About 95% of U.S. children live in a home under the income limit. See yours:

A quick check, not a decision. The SGO checks your income when you apply. Limits follow Treasury's proposed rules and may change.

How it works

  1. Find your child's school
  2. Apply to an SGO on its website
  3. The scholarship pays the school

New program: first SGO lists arrive by Feb 15, 2027. Get an email when your school has one.

More about applying

  1. Check that your state is taking part. Scholarships come from SGOs on a participating state's list. See the states taking part.
  2. Find an SGO whose scholarships your child's school takes, on the school's page or in the list of SGOs.
  3. Apply to the SGO, not to the IRS. Each SGO runs its own application and checks your income. Students who had a scholarship last year, and their brothers and sisters, come first.

States send their 2027 SGO lists to the IRS by Feb 15, 2027. We add SGOs, and their scholarships, as lists appear, so check back if your school has none yet.

We don't take applications or decide who gets a scholarship: each SGO does. Being listed here is not an endorsement. See how we list and order SGOs.
